3.5 I feel like this really should have been a novella and then it would have been a 5 star read. Spending so much time in Louis’s head really didn’t serve the book. You could have cut a 1/3 of his inner monologue and had a much more compelling and terrifying story. It wasn’t until 75% that I was finally into what was happening. A disappointing reading experience because of all the hype surrounding the book.

my first stephen king book; not a huge fan of his writing style. after about halfway through the book i was bored of it and was just reading it to be done. the premise was scary enough i guess, just wish the writing could match up to it.

Child death is probably the only trigger that I don’t feel like I can handle, particularly with as much focus on it as there seems to be in the second half of this book. So, I’m choosing to not finish after a little over half the book. Maybe I’ll finish it at a later point, when my own son is not so close in age to Gage. I was intrigued by a lot of aspects in the first half of the book, but also bored by several parts of it.

I’d sadly seen (both) movie adaptations for this and I desperately wish i hadnt. Even though I already knew the fate of the Creed family it didnt make it any less heart wrenching.

Builds slowly and then packs a heavy punch in the last 100 pages, right to the gut.

This story reminds me a bit of Edgar Allan Poe, with its mounting tension, psychology and morals, but the writing is strictly King and has the power to pull the reader in from the very beginning. With an ever-growing tension and false hope, Pet Sematary is a deeply disturbing book that made me feel anxious and upset. I was wrong to expect a childish story of the title and my underestimate bit me in the ass. In between reading sessions I could feel the malevolent pull of the book. If I compare Pet Sematary to the other books I've read by King I come to the conclusion that King suffers with writing his endings, but on the other hand how can you write a satisfactory ending to something so “gweat and tewwible”?

I've owned this book for so long and I'm so glad that I finally read it. I can definitely see the appeal and I can see why people love this book so much, but it's definitely not one of my favorites. This is one of the only Stephen King books that I've read that I actually thought kinda dragged on, but I didn't mind it as much as 'Salem's Lot.
