Old Habits isn’t the first published work by Lovett, but it is her first solo; the previous was a co-write and a piece in an anthology. Why am I saying this? It’s simple. I’m blown away. completely and wholeheartedly amazed.

Be sure to read the warning. Honestly, if you are a person who needs trigger warnings, this is probably not the book for you. This relationship is toxic. It’s not okay in real life. But these are fictional characters soooo…..

If you’re looking for a new toxic book boyfriend that you know you should hate but definitely don’t, get that one-click finger ready. Kai’s the villain in this story, but he’s not going to allow anyone else the chance to have her, and I assure you he doesn’t care what your thoughts on book boyfriend redemption stories are.

Please keep in mind that this is a short read, but don’t let that deter you. It’s super steamy, but it’s more than that; my eyes couldn’t consume the words fast enough.

Harper and Kai have atomic bomb levels of chemistry, and at times they leave a level of devastation in their wake that might rival one. They push one another over the edge every chance they get, but they are also the only ones able to pull one another back to safety.

I don’t want to give anything away, but I can’t wait for the next book. I’m in love with this world Lovett has created, and I’m really looking forward to finding out who the next toxic book boyfriend in the series is.

Old Habits is brimming with white hot steam and an all consuming story that will have you glued to your kindle from the first word to the last. I’m looking forward to falling in love with more of Lovett’s villains and seeing her continue to storm her way into the dark romance world.

The writing and the flow of the story was fast-paced and it somehow created this notion of mystery and thrill that made me read it in one sitting. However it feels like I'm still here waiting for the punchline. I was like, wait—that's it? Just cheating, toxicity, and red flags—which I loved how this book portrayed those, btw—but I was hoping the story would delve into much deeper reasoning or something not just plain idiocy or rather for the hell of it because... why not?

- I’m a little nervous knowing there’s cheating but I figure it’s short so I can deal with it. I’m too intrigued
- ok so hopefully it’s not cheating between the main characters
- this is the only time I’ve ever wanted the FMC to fuck someone else than the MMC
- I really wanna see something happens that shows she’s NOT the consolation prize. Seriously what was his plan?
- I mean if was short and there was only so much to put it. I do wish I got more info about his plans if Harper never found out about violet. Would he have eventually broke up with violet? That’s my biggest question. Otherwise it was good. Good writing and I’m definitely gonna read the next book about violet

good

If there’s a timeline to this book, I didn’t follow it. At all. I don’t know how we got from the middle to the end. I wish this had been a full length book. I think then my lingering questions would have been answered, and I’d probably have more invested in following the other characters.
The writing style is great, and honestly if you’re even slightly a fan of Sam Mariano, then the characters are definitely a fit for what you’d like.
Overall, it was good, but not something I’m gonna squeal about.

Kai and Harper

Very intersting debut.

I wanted a full length novel, but that only shows that I wanted more of these toxic two. On the lookout for more by this author.

This is the story of The OW who didn’t know she was the side piece…it’s a story about settling then meeting your soulmate.

Kai and Harper are the definition of toxic. Their relationship is intense, volatile, and passionate.

Laura Lovett did the undoable (is that actually a word?)! I do not read cheating books. Let me say that again: I DO NOT read cheating books. I don’t know what it was about Old Habits that called to me, but there was no stopping myself. I still don’t like cheating books and, if I’m honest, probably won’t pick up another one. That said, there’s no denying, how much I love an obsessed hero and Kai is o.b.s.e.s.s.e.d. to the nth degree. He and Harper were toxic and wrong, but so so right.

“I want to scream and cry and slap him, but I can't stop. I want this. He's my drug. I'm crazy for him.”
