a bit too much (very confusing and complex) lore for me.

almost DNF’d multiple times, but I am happy that I finished the book.

P.s. William is *chef’s kiss* 😌

P.p.s the cover is so pretty 🥺🥵

Also can I just say SEL🦋🦋🦋💀

I didn’t like how the deaths of Evan, Whitty and Russ were written because they happened so fast and so close to each other that I feel like they lost their impact, which is really such a shame (especially bc they were TEENAGERS!! :(

what I liked:

- a black history/culture-Arthurian retelling
- the commentary on race
- the dark academia vibes
- all the fighting and swords
- discussion about grief and loss

what I didn't like:
- the romance, so so so rushed, insta-love, could not suspend my belief about it, literally why it lost one star

what I am ambivalent about:
- most of the characters tbh... way too many names and positions to remember and cant remember who likes and dislikes Bree.

overall, it was an engrossing read, really creative and innovative but I hated the romance and the characters were generally hard to keep track of. intrigued for the next book and whether my latest theory will be correct

This rocked my world. This explores power, privilege and duty. It tackles grief and trauma. The balance of the legacy of the past against hope for the future. All with the backdrop of Arthurian legend. Yeah. Read it. Immediately.

I loved this book. It's not the same old, tired YA fantasy despite involving Arthurian legend. I especially appreciate the way grief and institutional racism were handled.

The only thing I am wary of is a potential relationship that could happen in the next book (sincerely hope it doesn't).
