An invigorating, deeply revolutionary optimistic and as relevant as ever collection of speeches, with essays and excerpts by other transgender individuals. Never forget Leslie was a Marxist, a Communist, a comrade.
"The people who make a difference in history are those who fight for freedom– not because they're guaranteed to succeed– but because it's the right thing to do. And that's the kind of fighters that history demands today. Not those who worship the accomplished fact. Not those who can only believe in what is visible today. But instead, people of conscience who dedicate their lives to what needs to be won, and what can be won. I am confident you and I will find each other, shoulder-to-shoulder, in that historic struggle."

Essays from 1997 and the language is dated but what is being described is still painfully relevant. Fascinating to read historical connections to different liberation movements - also interesting and upsetting to realize this knowledge doesn't seem to have been carried forward by mainstream gay & lesbian organizations.
