Read this for book club which was an interesting experience in and of itself - may change my rating after our last meeting.
A memoir in which reality is filled with supernatural experiences, this is a book where you really have to believe and accept what is told because otherwise the way this is told is so disorienting and won’t be a fun read. Very nonlinear and spanning generations within her family, the author touches upon many different themes about family, culture, gender, and colonialism. I think the writing style was quite nice and was well written, with certain scenes really resonating with me. However, the majority of the book was her recounting family stories which didn’t really speak to me and sometimes were repetitive in their messaging.
Towards the end she becomes more upfront about the clashing of American culture with her Colombian culture which was really interesting but definitely differed in the prose earlier in the book which was a little disarming. All in all, this was an interesting read I wouldn’t have otherwise picked up but feel generally neutral on it.

how can a memoir about a place and family that you've never been to or known feel like home?
