This book made me want to go back and change all of my other ratings because this book has surpassed them all.

“You couldn’t keep sidling up to death and dipping your toe in. Eventually it grabbed your ankle and tried to pull you under.”

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo is one of my favourite books I’ve read this year, my first dark academia book and it will not be my last.

We are introduced to Galaxy “Alex” Stern and Daniel “Darlington” Arlington. Alex can see grays, Ninth House’s version of ghosts, a rare talent that can usually only be achieved through an elixir. Darlington is Lethe’s virgil, looking for his new dante when Alex is dropped in his lap.

This book was a bit hard to get going, the first few chapters were difficult to get through, but once it got going I couldn’t put the book down. It had so many twists and turns with emotional moments and chapters in both the past and present which made for an interesting way of finding out the main characters’ backstory.

The pacing was great once it got going, the mystery was incredibly gripping, I wanted to know what happened, I had to keep reading till I found out. If Hellbent is anything like Ninth House, I’m in for an enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this, I loved the whole premise and the way the story is told but I felt like the last 60 or so pages picked up the pace in a very confusing way that felt way too abrupt considering the rest of the book.

Im really looking forward to reading the next part in this series hihihi
