I didn't like the MC, and it didn't seem like she was being set up for a character arc to address the things that turned me off to her. There was also SA of child in flashback, which seemed to be there only for shock value.

*To be honest, I also read this in between books 1 and 2 of another series I was more excited about, which probably influenced me dropping it. I had other things I really wanted to read, and just couldn't get into this one.

Start was really slow and disorganised, should have been edited to be chronological rather than jumping. Ending was really good, saved the book.

i started this book and then got distracted from it for a while, but when i came back to it i’m so glad i did! as a six of crows lover i know bardugo can do twists and turns like no other, and she definitely did not disappoint. some fantastic dark academia with a supernatural twist to chew on, i’ll definitely be ready the sequel. lost a little bit of a star because of a bit of a slow start (and a little too much focus on the geography of new haven before we, as the readers, really know enough to care), but once it picked up i couldn’t put it down!
