2 because i liked the characters and certain relationships, also it was an easy read and kept me intrigued.
But the absolute LACK of relevancy when it comes to the stakes that are constantly told to you just pissed me off so badly.
The VERY FIRST chapter tells us abt the stakes and how the Tuatha will find them if xyz - most of this stuff occurs and not once do these characters actually feel in danger. You get told the stakes but they are never in play.
E.g Fodla is NEXT to the two remaining fire wielders and not one thing is said in her two remaining povs despite it being said that a Tuatha WILL sense their fire magic. And also the fact that Gormflaith DOES sense her brothers fire magic just adds insult to the lack of relevancy in the stakes tbh.
Then its constantly mentioned how they need to move on because they don't age - but hey at the end of the book they are still in the exact same situation of high profile eventho we are at the 20 or so year mark where they really need to be moving on.
Also I love me a strong manipulative fc but Gormflaith was so against everyone and insulting to other women i was lowkey irritated at times. I don't mind fc vs fc but it felt so unnecessary at times.

I thought this was young adult but Gemini said it's adult historical fiction. A good young adult book gets a 3.5 that's the rating system. I was entertained. Immediately started the next book
