This book was incredible. Everything I want in a fantasy book that also incorporates history and mythology. Beautifully written and well structured. The characters are interesting and I love the story so far. I can’t wait to see where book two goes.

3.5 stars - I definitely enjoyed the story, but the names and pronunciations really threw me off from being able to fully immerse myself. I switched to the audiobook 75% in and sped through the rest and look forward to listening to book 2!

Historical fantasy but more historical than fantasy. I loved this first installment but my only criticism would be that I wish the magic had a bigger part. With it being only the first book in a series though I am hopeful that the magic will have a more central role in future books. I love the characters or I loved to hate them. Gormflaith is something else. She’s the perfect villain. I can’t even hate her because she’s so layered.
