I found this book difficult to get in to but I’m glad I gave it a shot because I enjoyed it once I got into it. I didn’t realise this book was part of an existing fictional world and I think I’d have found the world building less rushed if I’d started with the earlier series first. I appreciated the main character being disabled and both being highly capable but also experiencing difficulties

A warning for those who would benefit from it - this story starts with a sexual assault. There is also a ghost character who spies on people naked, and this behaviour is not treated seriously by the book or other characters

“Crap on a cracker the size of Texas” is an actual thing that’s said out loud in this book. And I still read this in one sitting.

This is trash, I am trash, I have no regrets.

I loved the own voices rep a lot! People in my life live with visual imparement (their terminology) so it was really cool to see some of that experience tied into a fantasy novel.

The world building was really good! I loved the few little references to Supernatural aswell! Romance and intimacy isn't for me, but the relationships are nice too.

Storm & Fury had everything I love about JLA. Her books are just so easy to read and get in to, I always enjoy them so much!
This first book in the trilogy was a great spin-off to the Dark Elements series and I loved seeing Zayne and a few others from the original trilogy. I have read TDE but it's been a while so I really appreciated all the recap JLA put in to the book. You don't miss out by not having read the Dark Elements but I do recommend it as a trilogy as well!
I think I was a bit indifferent to Zayne in TDE, knowing he wouldn't be Layla's endgame, so I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I love him in this one!
It also ended with a typical JLA ending where I need the next one now - this is exactly why I waited until all three books were released before picking them up!

Pretty cliche in almost every way. Super powerful, combat trained, strong woman… who is just oh so clumsy and inexplicably still needs a male body guard, who by the way is super hot, to justify inane reasons to physically touch her all the time. Throw in a not so shocking betrayal, a “if you just talked to each other about your feelings this would be resolved” romantic subplot and a book full of hints to various tragic backstories and you have this mediocre YA modern urban fantasy.

It wasn’t bad, but I’ve heard it all done (better) before.

Did not enjoy nearly as much as her other series.
