Reading this was a breeze. When I found out there was a prequel dedicated solely for Magnus, I had to read it. Magnus is my favourite FK character and I loved how nuanced his character is. I wish there were more stories about him.

I didn't feel much for the other characters in this story, but I liked how soft and kind Magnus was despite his grave mistakes he made as a kid. But as much as I loved him, I gave it 4 stars for I feel like this story was way too short and not so necessary to the series.

This was an incredibly short novella (as in, you'll be done reading in a few minutes) and it gives insight into little Magnus. Although I love learning more about our beloved characters, I personally didn't see the point of this little story as it didn't reveal outstanding information or details or an infamous backstory. All in all, it was fun to read, but quite unnecessary. Nothing like Marie Lu's Legend series' prequel Life Before Legend. This felt more like a fun anecdote than anything vaguely important, despite Rhodes' stellar writing style.

I was not aware that this was (1) a short story (2) part of a whole fantasy universe lmao
Either way, it did kinda make me want to dive into the whole story! Or just read more fantasy in general

I enjoyed this, and it was definitely a good story. I thought it was going to be the story of how Magnus got his scar, but unfortunately it was not. My own fault for assuming, but I was a little disappointed. I still enjoyed it though, and I wonder if any of these characters wills how up in the rest of the series.

Considering its length I feel like giving it four stars is a bit generous but the short story made me feel things okay? Especially after finally finishing Immortal Reign and that one scene where Magnus mentions his childhood...
