A Place For Us was an extremely refreshing read. It was heartfelt, genuine, and wrought with emotion. I felt as if I was a part of Amar’s family and was with Amar every step of the way. And, I could relate to each of the character’s on such deep levels that it truly moved me. This book has found a place in my heart. Moving away from the emotional stuff, A Place For Us addressed a lot of issues rampant in Muslim South Asian American families. Things such as the elders of our community continuously unable to properly address conflicts teens face, a child’s divide between two cultures and therefore two lives, and countless other ones either touched on the surface or explored deeply throughout the plot. Overall, super cute and touching and yes, I cried.

A really great story taken from the perspectives of most of the individuals in the book. Written about a family from India comes to the SF Bay Area and changes in expectations and lives parents beliefs and religion (not hard core religion in the book). The importance of having a boy in the family to carry on, except the expectations too high? Excellent ending brings it all together

A compassionate and captivating story of a Muslim family living in America. Told in alternating family members’ perspectives with the exception of the father, Baba, who only joins to close the story. A really beautiful book. I listened to the audio version.

I truly loved this book. The author has an incredible talent at crafting words into real feelings and I related to all of the characters and their complex perspectives in different ways. Would recommend!!!

I cried so hard at the end I gave myself a nose bleed. Such beautiful imagery and characters with so much depth and complexity that anyone could find themselves relating to them and the storylines.

I really enjoyed this book. About family and faith and the ways in which we don't understand even those we are closest to. The structure worked well, but since I couldn't predict what part of the story would be told next, I didn't find a narrative drive pulling me through.
