This was felt a little rushed and the art was nice. Kinda gives the vibe of a web comic. I was kinda hoping that it would be a little longer to expand on the world and characters. They kinda start by tossing you into the story, that would be fine if they had some stronger characters. I'm not really sure what the characters motives are? The elf's goal is to find her brother, there are rogues, and a Ranger who wants to kick evil butt and apparently he was an ancient hero of sorts? It would be good to get the elf's reaction to him, since he's mistaken her identity. Does she think he's mad or really thinks somehow he's the real deal? You can defiantly tell this is a d&d style book because they use vocab and spells often. Like when they were attacked and the guards decided to retreat because they've used their advantage, monster description of a red dragon, and whenever using a spell. I can see this being inspiring and a learning tool for beginning players and dms.

I don't know too much about Baldur's Gate in general

This was so amazing! Loved the art style and the characters. Nice to see some characters from Baldur's Gate games.

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Okay, I will say I honestly picked this up because it had Minsc on the cover. I played both Baldur's Gate games when they first came out and adored Minsc. So the idea of a comic starring him was exciting. Unfortunately, this mostly seemed like a rehash of some of Minsc's best lines from the games. There was no character development for any of the main characters. I had trouble understanding why they even came together beyond mutual need to avoid the city guard and the Flaming Fist. The story moves along far too quickly - I remember the city of Baldur's Gate taking such a long time to explore, and you never get a good sense of the size or scope of it in this book. And for as serious as it takes itself, this book seems to miss some basic D&D aspects. I'll pick on Minsc, since I love him so. He is a ranger. He's referred to throughout the story as the Beloved Ranger. But he's treated as a fighter in this, and drawn as some sort of hulking giant. Okay, I remember him being a lousy ranger in the game. He was terrible at sneaking. I regularly threw him into the fighter role. But it wasn't what he was built for. And he certain,y isn't playing the ranger role in this book. And I guess that leads me to my last point... I don't know who this book is intended for. Is it for those of us who've played the game and want to see more of characters we loved? Or to introduce newbies to the characters and hope they pick up the re released game? Or just fans of D&D and Forgotten Realms? There were far too many in-jokes for me to think it will appeal to those who aren't familiar with the series. And the majority of it seems like we've heard it before if we have played the games. I will say the artwork is decent, with several funny panels, particularly when they feature Boo.

The other reviews sum it up as well as I could - A more expansive or exciting plot would be nice depending on how far they go with this.

Though it was nice to see Minsc again, overall this is just an OK series. The plot is quite simple and entertaining, but doesn't get to do much with the setting or the characters; still a good start for Jim Zub's work on D&D and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of his work.

Death by Literature!
Minsc is by far the most beloved Ranger.

Fun little time waster - nothing grand to write home about, but it gives the real quirky feel of a campaign.

This was a quick and fun read that follows some pretty basic fantasy roleplaying game standards. It introduces several new characters, but draws in fans of the Baldur's Gate series with the inclusion of Minsc. I'm not familiar with the character, but what's not to love about a man who leaps into battle wielding a big ol' sword and a hamster and yelling things like, "If there is danger, then I shall dange it!" The other characters are a formulaic heart of gold rogue duo, and an elf sorceress who is searching for her brother. She is hunted by a dragon cult who, oh I really don't have to explain it. This is the plot of just about every basic fantasy series ever. But as I said, it's quick and it's fun in both art and story and sometimes, that's good enough for me.
