I was expecting a cold but thrilling Nordic Noir, but this mystery, set around Christmas, is definitely cozy and slow. The doorman dressed as Santa is found dead at a fancy hotel, so our detective Erneldur starts investigating the hotel and the dead man’s past. There’s a big tragedy in his childhood. It took me some time to feel connected to the story. I did not guess the killer, but it was certainly not groundbreaking. I will continue reading the series.

Another satisfying tale of crime, Icelandic style! Twists, turns and personal insight abound as we get a little deeper into the lives of Inspector Erlendur and company while solving the murder of a Reykjavik hotel doorman with an unusual past.

this was a basic mystery. My sister's friend recommended it to her after I asked if all Icelandic/Nordic books were odd after I had read a few or if they only chose to translate the odd ones. There were some odd word choices and it was a slower read than it should have been for me but an ok story. I might read another.

I am a fan of this series, but this book was pale in comparison to the previous installments. Having some investment in the recurring characters, I thought this book was good enough, but it was a bit plodding and predictable.

Het boek leest prettig weg en heeft een interessante moordzaak. De IJslandse namen maken het in het begin lastig om onderscheid te maken, maar daar wen je aan.

I found this book easy to read, with an interesting case of murder. The Icelandic names can get confusing in the beginning and make it harder to understand who you're reading about, but you quickly get used to that.

The Santa that shows up dead, and no one knows what happened.
Erlendur digs deep into the victim's life as he uncovers mysteries of his past.
Awesome book, honestly, and you will never guess how it ends.
