I didn’t really understand the world building or magic (was it magic??) of the crossings they did. I also didn’t get until about this point they were talking about parallel worlds. I don’t understand why the MMC was told to stay away from the FMC because it wasn’t mention but beat into us that he’s supposed to stay away. I also really really dislike that their full names were used so often in every single chapter, it was a weird choice. Also instead of those two teaming up for a murder mystery it’s more her and her roommates Scooby-Dooing it up while he’s just kinda…there talking about how he’s a marionette and has no choice on anything and how he knows what will happen if he doesn’t answer the phone while not answering the phone.

Overall I just found myself not understanding the plot of this. I felt that the synopsis led me astray. Which is sad because this book sounded really interesting to me.
mysterious slow-paced

Honestly I wanted to like this so much based on the summary, but I really found it hard to get into and didn't really care about any of the characters. I just found it kind of boring and hard to follow. I ended up putting it down for weeks at a time and not wanting to pick it up again. It had a really cool idea, but I didn't love the execution :(

I really wanted to like this book. It has everything I want in a book, but I just feel like it fell extremely short of those expectations. I'm personally not deaf, but I felt like the main character never really gave voice to her struggles being deaf. I wanted to understand the challenges she faced being deaf in a hearing school and how she or her friends help her deal with it. She felt more of a passive backseat driver in the story rather than a protagonist
who deserved to have dominion in the underworld.
I felt that Colton was kind of creepy in his pining from an outside POV. I just didn't feel like the romance made any sense nor was it earned, and the villain of the story was very fairy-tale evil. Maybe this book wasn't for me, and it was for a different audience. I'm just a little disappointed.

The world building was quite sad for me. I love the concepts and the ideas but nothing is explained. for example
in the mirror world-- what if they come across their mirror selves. If theyre jumping what about the mirror self? what does it mean to have dominion over the dead? is there many Colton souls? just.. so much left unanswered.
