Really amazing novel, cross between sci fi and historical fiction. Really interesting to understand the relationship between power and race and gender and the parallel between the 70s and antebellum south! Saying that, 70s is even a big chnage from 60 years on now reading it so very interesting. Extremely harrowing at times but also very important to read. Wish we would’ve found out a bit more about the characters at the end of the novel but of course this is not realistic due to the lack of documentation of slaves - as a reader we are feeling how many families feel looking at their personal history.
