Good summer read. While it's in the tradition of Gone Girl, I found it to be a much better book. The story is told from the viewpoint of three different women, this allows you to get to know each of them in their own voice, not just as they're perceived by others. The mystery aspect kept me guessing until the end.

It was good, I think. The characters are annoying. The annoying obsessive nature of Rachel is understandable and I enjoyed reading her perspective. The way Anna becomes more like her anyway is funny.

Spoiler: [Character discussion]
Tom was kind in a toxic way that was alarming from the start. He did commit adultery after all. I wasn' t shocked to know he did it again. I think he likes Rachel's obsession with him, with them. It gives him power which he craves by excessively lying. You find out more of his lies right at the end. He is a misogynist, though. He really just views the three women around him as a revolving door for him to be needed and wanted. He doesn't truly care at all. I doubt he truly cared for Anna, too. Everything with him is genuinely artificial.

There was no real twist. I guess I've read enough that I inferred a lot and much of it was correct. It isn't an awful read. Just okay. I really liked Rachel.

It was entertaining but I didn't find the characters all that interesting.

I know it's not fair to ding a book just because you're comparing it to the movie, but that's just how it is. I couldn't really enjoy the book because I already knew what was going to happen since I'd seen the movie when it came out. It's not like one of those books where reading it gives you more insight compared to the movie version. I found the protagonist to be very grating and sad and I felt like the killer was very obvious from the beginning.

I f***** with this book so hard!!! Unlike other thrillers I've read, the book had me hooked the whole time. At 75% of the way through, I had NO CLUE how the story was supposed to end.

Every single character was insufferable though. Tread with caution, each character's personality just gets worse and worse...
