DID NOT FINISH

I wasn't a fan of the characters.

LOL. Fun and ridiculous audiobook and story.

wowwww

i watched the movie like 4 years ago so i thought i knew what i was getting into... i did not

i listened to the audiobook, planning to just listen to it every so often as i walk to class or do laundry or something, but then i could not stop. the audiobook was SO GOOD. i loved all the different voices they did, i think they were all very distinct and well done

the story itself was so good. twisty and unreliable and wtf but also very real. a really good study on motherhood and how having children (or NOT having children) can change everything. unfortunately i remembered from the movie “who done it” so it wasn’t a huge plot twist for me but if i hadn’t i think i would’ve been blown away.

i rly want to read the physical copy... i think doing other things while listening to it so i feel like i didn’t quite appreciate it the way it deserved

Hard to put down!

Even though I disliked all of the characters, I was intrigued by the well-constructed mystery and kept reading late into the night. Enjoyed the use of alcoholic black outs to create suspense and holes in the narrators interpretation of the tale.

"The Girl on the Train" reminded me of another satisfying read - "The Good House" by Ann Leary. It's also told from the perspective of an unreliable, alcoholic woman who blacks-out during a key point in the tale. I enjoyed both books - although I believe I learned more about alcoholism from "The Good House." It gave a very plausible representation of the denial and rationalizations that alcoholics may use to convince themselves that they do not suffer from a disorder and do not need to seek help.
