Other than the third act break up and the mmc acting like a jerk, this was a great read. I don’t know why they always have to be jerks, at least for a few pages. Why does this seem to be a requirement for romance novels? Sorry, rant over. This was a great book, would recommend, would read again.

CW/TW: mentions secondary character’s spouse’s death in the past.

For once I actually enjoyed a book that the masses also enjoyed. It was cute, fun, and had a lot of heart. Even though Griffin was rough around the edges, I appreciate that Harlow didn't take it in the toxic direction. Griffin, underneath it all, really was just a nice guy who didn't really deal with his past trauma.

Blair was sweet, but not in a sickening, get on your nerves way. She was cute and funny and was a nice balance to Griff.  As someone from the south, Blair sounded and acted exactly like some people I know in real life, so I appreciate that Harlow didn't go full stereotypical southern girl with the characterization.

Themes/settings I enjoyed; I really liked that the hero was a blue collar worker and not rich (not poor, but you know, has to budget). I liked the small town setting, the small town characters were nice and didn't feel too stereotypical. Oh yea, the sex scenes were nice and steamy.

Music that I had playing while listening;
Lightning Bolt by Jake Bugg (the meet cute)
Time's Always Leaving by the Lone Bellow
Out To Get You by James

Annnnd for some cheese cause I couldn't help myself, Uptown Girl by Billy Joel

Overall great book and was such a good comfort read.

Melanie Harlow is the queen of small town romancelandia! While less strong than the Cloverleigh Farms Next Generation books, I still enjoyed this one. I really liked Blair- she reminds me of Piper from It Happened One Summer and Alexis from Schitt’s Creek. Also, special shout out to Mr. Frankel who was just the sweetest. I would recommend this book and am excited to continue with the series!

  • Dual POV
  • Grumpy-sunshine
  • Mechanic x runaway (ex-)rich girl who happens to be an ambitious baker
  • I loved how Griffin was so open to her ideas and so soft for her. He was quite mean when his temper got in the way though.
  • ALSO, BLAIR AND MR FRANKFEL'S FRIENDSHIP WAS SO BEAUTIFUL!
  • The premise was set from the beginning (i.e. Griffin's reluctance to fully commit) and I was just waiting for the moment for her to leave or get hurt (conflict) because I knew they'd end up back together anyway. So, it was quite predictable.
  • The sex scenes were surprisingly good, but they had sex A LOT...almost every chapter. It got kind of repetitive and eventually felt like Griffin was more in for the sex rather than her other qualities.
  • NOT ENOUGH GROVELLING! I'm glad he apologised and had the heart admit his mistakes, but Blair should have made him GROVEL!!
