✨ The Title/Cover Draw:
Having just finished The Cousins, I wanted to read more of Karen McManus’ backlist.

I couldn’t put this book down. It was so intriguing, and even though I guessed the ending, I wasn’t disappointed. If this had been a Netflix series, I know I would’ve binged it in one sitting. The only critique I have was that some of the language and prose used in the book was pretty immature at times, but I had to remind myself that the characters were in fact high school students—it would’ve sounded odd if they had been very well-spoken.

It's not that I didn't figure out the plot twist, I did from early on, but the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed the ride anyway.

Amazing book, gripping sequence in every inch of the story, beautiful drama, unexpected climax (maybe a little expected). A must read by all means.

The book is well written, super enjoyable, impressively evocative. I really did care. I also saw every twist and reveal coming. Curiously, this did not make me enjoy it any less. But it really wasn't that hard to work out, so I suppose I didn't read it with the same urgency as I would have if I were desperate to find out what happened. Still, it is worth a read!

5 students go in detention and one doesn't make it out. It was described as The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars and I'm a sucker for the breakfast club. There's Bronwyn the straight-A perfectionist, Nate the outsider (drug dealer), Addy the beauty queen (homecoming princess) and Cooper the athlete.

I think the mystery was predictable and lack lustre, but I liked the characters. They were very readable and Bronwyn and Nate were a really cute couple. That's what made me give it such a good rating. The mystery isn't that great.

If you like mysteries and YA contemporaries this is good to pick up. I think fans of Sadie, Truly Devious and Nancy Drew would like this.
