I found this series by accident when attempting to search for a completely unrelated title. I'm glad I did. This book was adorable and silly and fun. Very much enjoyed.
I also caught the mean girls reference (the "mean girls" of the story are named after the Mean Girls actresses) which made me light up with joy. I will absolutely continue on in this series as soon as it's available from the library.

This was a really cute read, predictable and pretty par for the course but despite knowing what was coming of the formulaic-ness I enjoyed reading this.
'The C*ck Down the Block' is book one of Amy Award's The Cocky Kingmans series. Curvy librarian, football quarterback. Not seen has a match made in heaven but for Chris Kingsman he cant see any other girl for him. Trixie knows Chris is a great friend but that's all he'll ever be, until she needs him to pretend to be more because her school reunion is coming up and she cant face it alone. Chris sees this as his chance to prove to Trixie that he is what shes been waiting for.
spoilers
At times this book was really cute but then other times it was laugh at cringey then others just downright cringey. For me this was a fast fluff read. I'm not looking for more from it. If I had to look into this book the way I do for others that I read I think it would come off as the cutsie moments took over and kinda minimized the plot. The amount of time given to the sex tape is so minimal and the way it worked out felt like the day dreams of an early 2000s middle schooler about how life just all comes together. Bullys will be punished and those pure of heart will win out. So much is also put into her backstory of having a pornstar mother and then that almost fell flat, the plot line about her boss sees it through but when it came to Trixie and her personal issues with vulnerability and whatnot it all completely gets tossed aside the minute shes with Chris. Maybe it just never was the right guy but we're led to believe that this is all a big deal to her and shes been hurt in the past but nope it just gets glossed over.
I'm going to put the next one on my tbr, but Im not sure when I get around to it if this was worth me continuing on with all the other series I have started and need to finish.

Yikes.
So, it had all the ingredients to be 5 stars but the writing is a 3/5.
Spoilers ahead:
The sex tape deserved more attention. It was glanced over and there was no introspection about it on Trixie's part, even though it must've been a huge thing to experience. The writing is very Wattpad - there's a whole lot of plot, but no inner monologue about the thoughts and feelings these events cause. Which is fine for a feel-good romance without big drama, however...
Moreover how the issue of her virginity was dealt with was very odd: surely the appropriate response to being bullied about being "a prude" by a gross guy is to ignore it since there is nothing bad about waiting for a person you feel comfortable with and who isn't dehumanizing you and targeting you because of who your mom is. The appropriate response is not to have sex at a semi-public space. It's not a gotcha at all. "That'll show them", thinks Chris. Yeah, show them what exactly? That the woman you love isn't a virgin - as if there's something bad about being one? It's doing exaxtly what that AITA guy wanted - to dehumanize and objectify Trixie and create revenge porn.
It would've been nice to see Trixie address those issues. Being hypersexualized and objectified, and guys with unhealthy obsessions of her mother's porn targeting her, borderline stalking her and harrassing her. But nope.
And I get that not every book needs to be deep and some books can be Hallmark type romance - that would've been okay. In fact, that's the reason why I picked this book up, and the first half was easily 5/5 stars.
But the last half of the book isn't Hallmark level fluff, is it? It has some very heavy topics, such as bullying, being hypersexualized, dehumanized and being the victim of sexual abuse (revenge porn). These topics require skill to write and more over - enough pages to cover. This book was genuinely too short to handle these types of issues, and therefore ends up glazing over them with "oops just got sexually abused WHOOPSIE but I'm engaged to the hot good guy now so happy ever after"
Rating this book is difficult. I really wanted to like it more than I did. For example, the reunion dance was 5/5 before the locker room sex part, and the whole thing just plummeted downwards from that on.
I did enjoy the chickens and cock jokes a lot, though.
3,5 stars, but I'm giving it an extremely reluctant 4 because it was still worlds better than book #4 (which I stupidly read before this one and rated 3), the chickens were nice, and I loved the body positivity. This series is my first touch to plus size romance so I'm feeling a little generous in awe of the genre.
