nice try in putting the issue about depression out in the open, but sometimes I feel like the book was desperately trying to convince me of things that should be forgiven and forgotten regarding the plot and its characters.

and no, unlike Colleen Hoover's other leading men, I didn't fall for Sagan this time. I learned the hard way to be consciously aware that there's .65% of chances there's a guy like him IRL; Sagan was breathed life from clay like wonder woman was. Props to Merit's progress though throughout the story, and everyone around her. It all just proves that most misunderstandings and problems can be resolved by being open and honest with people involved.

Are we surprised that I read a CoHo book in one day? Absolutely not. “Without Merit,” pulled on my heart in more ways than one. It made me realize I’m not alone in my situations, feelings, and circumstances. I’m walking away from this one with a few lessons and solid quotes from Sagan.

This would have to be my lowest rating CoHo book and that pains me to say. As much as I love Colleen, all of my reads from her so far have been romance so this one took me by surprise as the romance was by far, just a small extra storyline. This is a beautiful and honest look at a dysfunctional family and mental health regardless and enjoyed all the unique traits of all the characters and of course; the ending that tied it all together beautifully!

Although the ending was good, this book had a lot of heavy topics…

I absolutely loved this book. I am 41 and have suffered from MDD and Bipolar my whole life and started my mental health journey at the age of 40. Merit hit such a chord with me that it literally took my breath at times. Granted, I didn’t have the family that Merit had, but her inner struggles and issues were like visiting a young version of myself. Even adult version if we’re being honest.
