This is quite a tough read. It portrays the atrocities of the event very vividly.

The book uses different writing styles, such as some chapters being in second person (although not the same consistent ‘you’ throughout), and one chapter told from the perspective of one of the dead. Although these were interesting, I personally found it quite hard to follow the plot because of it.

Reflections on death and attempts at burying memories so as not to have to relive them conflicting with those who see no other option but to relive them

very beautiful writing. incredibly heartbreaking and real and raw. there was an ache in my chest the whole time, especially in his friends' and moms' chapters. it was like my heart was being squeezed and it never let up. it's a tough read, but i'm glad i read it and i'll definitely read it again in the future.
