If you're looking for an exciting, action-packed read, Thieve's Gambit by Kayvion Lewis is the perfect choice. I finished this book in just one day. The premise is as thrilling as it sounds: a group of young thieves compete in a high-stakes challenge to win a coveted year-long contract, all while navigating a labyrinth of twists and turns to save their loved ones.
The action is non-stop, with each heist more thrilling than the last. The sharp character banter adds a lively edge to the fast-paced plot. I especially appreciated the competition's focus on strategy and cunning rather than violence—something that feels like a breath of fresh air compared to other dystopian favorites. (Look, I love The Hunger Games, but sometimes I don't need all the players to die, you know?!) Reading Thieve's Gambit felt like watching a heist movie where the stakes are high, but the tone is light and entertaining.
This was my first time reading Kayvion Lewis's work, and I have to say, I am a fan! The diverse cast of characters and the roller coaster of a plot kept me turning page after page. If you're looking for a thrilling adventure with heart and humor, Thieve's Gambit is a must-read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group for an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest and thoughtful review.

I’ve seen that the film rights for this book have been bought before this book has even hit shelves, and I understand why. Kayvion Lewis has written a really fun, cinematic, fast-paced YA action mystery-heist reminiscent of your favourite movies and books (think elements of Six of Crows, Inheritance Games, and Oceans Eleven) combined with elements of a less macabre Hunger Games or Squid Games (being YA) while creating incredibly diverse characters, spanning many cultures and continents, with authentic cultural names (never forget Cho Chang from HP), who are also likeable* (mostly!) in the competition.
I had a lot of fun diving headfirst into the action with FMC Rosalyn ‘Ross’ Quest. She’s a 17-year-old high-calibre thief who could rival Danny Ocean, who then gets invited to join an underground thieving competition. Of course, she accepts to save her kidnapped mother. The challenges in the Gambit are outrageous and outlandish, but I embraced them with open arms. I was always unsure about each character's motives, and unravelling who to trust in the “Thieves Gambit” was part of that fun. Likewise, I loved the intriguing rivalries and friendships formed during the Gambit. I'm also pleased to announce the Bechdel test was passed with flying colours!
Some plot points felt a bit too convenient and required an extreme suspension of disbelief here and there. Additionally, a lot was going on at the end, with twist upon twist, that I was nearly out of breath. However, all in all, I definitely recommend this book if you’re a fan of similar genres -- it’s an easy, fun, page-turning ride.
The ending definitely left it open for a sequel, which I am definitely going to put on my TBR if and when announced.
My thanks to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster and author Kayvion Lewis for the opportunity to read this work, which will be published in October, 2023. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I ate this book up. Devoured it.
To save her mother's life, legendary teenaged thief Rosalyn Quest must join and win the Thieves' Gambit - a ruthless competition to determine the world's best thief where the winner is granted one wish. Her whole life she was taught to trust no one, but when the competition requires her to work with others, she starts to wonder if she could have what she's been missing her whole life: friends (and in the case of one very handsome, very charming boy maybe more).
I wasn't sure if I would be into a heist book since I typically dislike heist movies, but I absolutely loved this. I enjoyed Quest's character, and I particularly enjoyed watching her understand and come to terms with the fact that her mother did not always have her best interests at heart so that she could reevaluate what she wanted her life to look like without the influence of her mother's expectations. The found family was particularly lovely in this, since Quest had to go from being taught that she couldn't trust anyone to learning how to trust before she could let other characters in. It was very compelling. Overall, I would definitely recommend this if you enjoy a fast-paced YA mystery/thriller.

this was sooo fun!! miss kayvion I need the rest of the series asap
