Good read, but definately not character driven. Still, I enjoyed Kinch and his filthy sense of humour well enough. And I love Norrigal too, as weird as the whole thing is!
Really wish there were more books in this series!

Wanted to like this more, you can see all the places it’s trying to be funny, but it’s just kinda smile funny. I liked the adventures and the ending, it did drag at parts.
Tons of world building via exposition. Once I felt the story would get going the plot kind of just meanders and instead of building up these characters it builds up the world. Which I don't hate but you have to do it correctly not just through tons of exposition. It's like the narrator knows he's talking to the reader who is not from this place which is not how good world building is done. Bummer because I really Enjoyed Between Two Fires by the same author.

I had previously read the daughter's war which is a prequel to this book, and really enjoyed that one. This one did not disappoint. This one was significantly less vicious, but I really enjoyed the characters and how they interacted with the world and each other. I wish there was more time spent delving into the guild stuff but I think that that is planned for future books. I liked having read the prequel first since it was fun to see the references and know the history of the world the characters inhabited, but I think it could also have been fun to read this book and then go read the backstory. I think my only other critique is that the giants are hyped up for so much of the book but then dont end up doing as much as I would've wanted. Otherwise this was a very enjoyable book!

Really fun book! The pacing was a little slow in places, but overall was well written. It felt like a D&D adventure with all the crazy mishaps that come with bad luck!
