The beautiful cover convinced me to read this. The premise sounded good, but the execution was meh, at best. Incredibly boring. As with almost all books with dual timelines, I enjoyed one much more than the other. The positive I’ll say is that the author did a fantastic job setting the scene. I felt like I was drinking limoncello while looking out over the cliffs of Positano, Italy. The 1820 timeline seemed…not well researched. The romance was not romancing. The magic was not magic-ing, and the plot was not plotting. Disappointed because there was so much hype around this one.

When I started this book I wasn’t sure I was ready to read another sea/witch book since I had just read Sirens. However, this ended up being worth pushing through my own hesitation. The story bounces between present day Haven, the ocean archeologist and 1821 and the streghe of positano. There is a nice weaving of the two stories.
