Obsessed with the last third of the book, pulling all the previous books' characters and plots together, love it. The first part was a bit slow and sometimes Fitz was annoying but I still enjoyed the whole thing overall

SECOND READTHROUGH, six months after the first.

Don't have much to say on top of my original review. This book has one of my favourite scenes in all the books. The inconsistency with the timeline of this last trilogy is beyond frustrating. This series has great re-readabilty for all the things that would've been missed the first time around. I still love it.

---------

This book was faster paced than Fool's Assassin, but that doesn't mean that it didn't remain a slow-paced book. This is not a criticism.  Robin Hobb is a master at the slow-burn story mode.  It's filled with a lot of considered character introspection and character growth.

Fitz has the incredible ability to both be one of my favourite characters in all of literature, and likewise the most maddeningly frustrating ones I've ever met. Perhaps because I see myself struggling with a lot of the things that Fitz struggles with, and it's beyond frustrating to see him take a step forward and then take another step backwards in the same way I always manage to.

Anyway, I love these books a lot. I can't believe I only have one left.
