It was good. It got better towards the end, after Lena and Will stopped acting like children. I think I'd like to see more of the verwulfen, particularly the Norwegian clan, and maybe Charlie could get a HEA. I truly like the world this author has created. I can't wait to read the next one in this series.

This series continues to be just the escape I need and adore. Fun dark, sexy, intense, and exceedingly well written, it just keeps getting better and better!

The sequel made both Lena and Will far more interesting and complex, now that they starred in the book. Lena is a girl out of her depth but someone who slowly grows into a strong and confident young woman. Will is arguably more rough around the edges than Blade, but his nature is soothed by Lena’s presence.

Their difference in personalities and certain plot lines remind me of the first book, though the characters have enough unique traits that make them stand out. I really did enjoy the banter and teasing between them, which helped with the romantic tension.

The world building grew in favour of the verwolfen, which I enjoyed, and the action scenes were spot on. There were plenty of shocking twists and drama to keep the tension up, and the intimate scenes were quite steamy.

I’ve had a great time reading these romantic, opposites-attract books with supernatural elements, and highly recommend them to anyone looking for the same!

I don't know why it took me so long to finish this book, because I love the setting and the characters. I guess I just got distracted by other books, but at least I finally came back around and finished it. I need to read the rest of the series too, because apparently a spin-off is coming. Anyway, I thought the relationship between Will and Lena was an interesting one, and I liked learning more about the verwulfen (werewolves) too. The little twists on vampires and werewolves in this series is fascinating. Plus, I enjoy all the steampunk contraptions as well. I'm really looking forward to reading the next book.

Having taught a class on fantasy and science fiction for many years, I may be more critical of the genre than your average reader. I find McMaster's alternate steampunk London interesting, with vampires (Blue Bloods) the nobles, and human debs not on the Marriage Mart, but hoping to secure a thrall contract with a nobleman, granting him the right to suck her blood on a regular basis. But I find her plotting lacks internal coherence at times. For example: Why do the blue bloods need werwulven Will, our hero, to help them negotiate a treaty with Scandinavia? They SAY they need him, and promise him things that will wreak major changes on their society just to gain his cooperation, but the text never SHOWS why his participation is vital. Will has to do this for the needs of the romance, not because it makes any logical sense in the world that McMaster has created. Things like this happen far too often, and each time they do, my suspension of disbelief becomes less and less willing.

I could also do without the constant putting the heroine in danger so the hero can rescue her. And the changing heroine into a supernatural being without her consent (even if it is an accident in this case, and she would have agreed if she'd been asked). And I REALLY wish Sourcebooks would hire a decent copyeditor. McMaster misuses words or omits words on a fairly regular basis; though this leads to annoyance rather than confusion, each instance again pops me out of my immersion in the story.

I thought it was a bit of a slow start, but things really started picking up in the last 1/3. Good story.
