Ok I really enjoyed this one. It did take me a bit to get hooked, but I'm so glad I did. I love the magic system and the characters. I even manage to figure a few things out which I'm quite proud of. Can't wait to dive into the next book!

A perfect fantasy novel in my eyes. Ends on a cliff hanger…and with some great twists.

I liked the world and the story. However, the heroine is annoying and the rest of the characters are flat. Story hooked me enough to read the second one.

Had a lot of potential but it just had so much excess information, situations, description that was not integral to the plot that I just found myself less and less excited by the end. I am now on book two but not sure I care enough about the characters anymore to finish.

Renata was SO beaten down in the first book by the people around her. They were supposed to care about her and they were all incredibly cruel. Even Dez was too, in the end.

Kinda like being kicked in the ‘nads over and over. Eventually you’re kind of numb. Wouldn’t know since I’ve never had nads. Will do research to make sure I’m correct, haha

This book was very slow, I felt no suspense at her having to be a double agent. It was lack lustre for me.

Wowee this book has plot twists on plot twists!

Not to brag but I predicted more more half of the twist like a badass. Still enjoyable though. It's fun being right.

OMG! This book was amazing!!!! Everything about this book drew me in, the characters, the worldbuilding, and the magic. Character development was a HUGEEE part of this book and I loved watching Renata grow into the confident person she is at the end of the book. I enjoyed the tempo of the book as well. It started with a BANG, slowed down to explain some things and then took off running. There were some plot twists towards the end that I wasn't expecting and I truly enjoyed that. I can't wait for the next one and luckily since I waited so long to read the first one (anyone else's TBR out of hand) I can dive right into the next one.
