Awesome. Very cool tale. Perhaps a liiiiiiittle too much detail and inner voices, but even all of that was written with real flare and talent.

While written very well, Cunning Folk was too long and meandering for me. I think this story could have benefited from being much shorter, as the tension is broken by long, drawn-out boredom inducing scenes that only serve to build the atmosphere and paranoia of the protagonist. While atmosphere building is very much part of the Folk Horror subgenre, it still needs to serve the story and deliver a punch to make the reader care about the characters. Some readers may love the wording, writing, and the vibes (and there is no denying Nevill is a good writer and writes atmospheric scenes beautifully) but this was just too boring for me.
