I cannot be the only one rooting for Eric. He is highly entertaining! This is another good book in the series. There were two mysteries in this novel, and the introduction of more vampire and Bon Temps characters. Sookie has finally met another telepath and has learned about the existence of two more supernatural races. I like the progression of the book, and I feel like Sookie's character is developing.

“I am sorry that the maenad picked on you”

The True Blood show is a big guilty pleasure for me, I love it. So when I go into these books I don't expect groundbreaking literature. However, this one fell a bit flat, especially after watching season 2 of the show.
One thing the show did really well was slowly uncover some of the other beings later in the series to give the viewer time to wonder and guess what was going on. In the book it's all just nonchalantly revealed in the first 50 pages. She gets attacked and we find out right away that it is a maenad, she arrives at the hotel and instantly meets Barry the other telepath. It feels like there is no room to speculate because you are having everything told to you.

While on the topic of comparing to the show…
I AM SO MAD THAT GODRIC WAS ORIGINALLY A NONCE.
He is one of my favourite characters from season 2 :(

Godfrey, as he is called in the book, just adds to a list of unlikable characters. The only character that really keeps me reading is Eric, and I feel guilty about my love for him because he is the worst. Pam, on the other hand, best character. I love her and need more Pam content pronto.

Annoyingly, I found this really easy to read in a mind numbing kind of way and I will almost definately keep reading the series for that reason but I think the plot of this one fell a bit short.

Reread after 15/20 years.

Does Sookie even like Bill? Because he seems pretty gross and she seems barely into him.

Living Dead in Dallas is the second book in the Sookie Stackhouse or The Southern Mystery Vampire Series, it was confusingly racist, homophobic, sexist, and slut shame-y. I understand this book was published in 2002, I just expected better from author Charlaine Harris.

Wow, I don't like the way Harris writes about people of color in this book. I don't like it one bit. There were so many "WTF?!" moments where I had to cringe and pause the audiobook. Also, what is with Harris' love phrases with the word "co*n" in them, I know she's southern but I don't care. She needs to stop using those damn phrases.

There's a bit of homophobia in the book too. Sookie's brother admits to be a homophobe and she yells at him for it, then she turns around and starts having homophobic thoughts about gay characters in the book. Girl, you are no better than your brother.

The spice in here was okay, but what was lacking was the detail .I'm giving this 2.5 chilies out of 5 chilies 🌶️🌶️

With the causal racism, sexism, and homophobia, I can't give this book anything higher than 2 stars. Certain parts were interesting and that's why I'm giving it two stars instead of just one.
⭐️⭐️ 2/5 Stars

I listened to this for free on the library app libbyapp.com

I still hate Bill.

I don't understand why these two storylines were combined into one book. The Dallas storyline was interesting, though super dark. The Lafayette storyline felt super underdeveloped and like it was just an  excuse to write about the sex party. I wish the author had just focused on the Dallas storyline.
