Very interesting beginning to a series. Lots of world building that is done very well, also very dark at some points, includes mentions of SA so check your triggers before reading if you're sensitive to those kind of subjects.

Sword and bodice a genre?
Badly written and edited, though mildly amusing at times.
Easy to fall asleep to.

Solid first book!
This is a good first book in the series! We meet Shanti, who has a gift that allows her to incapacitate people using her mind in various ways. Other people have similar gifts. She happens to meet one who hasn’t realized his talent. Shanti and the man become friendly, but not too friendly if you catch my drift. Haha.
There are people after Shanti who want her power for themselves. This is the primary source of strife in the book.
Anyhow, there aren’t any actual sex scenes in this book. A few kisses and some other sexual type stuff, but no actual sex. Boo, I was hoping Shanti would get together Cayan.
Give this book a try! Happy reading y’all!

It was good and Shanti was great, but I thought the story was a bit slow and I'm still not sure of the world building.

What a great first book. I read it in a day couldn’t put it down. Shanti is a brilliant character and I love how this book shows cultural differences in different types of people.
The boys shanti trains are also brilliantly written, it’s interesting to see a female train a group of boys.
100% recommend to anyone who loved throne of glass etc. It’s one of those amazing book series you won’t forget.

I have found another favorite author. K F Breene writes about strong female women with witty humor and great action. The is the second series I have read of hers, the first being Leveling Up. I can’t wait to continue this one.
