This book was beautiful. It put words to many of my views of nature and science, and inspired me to think in new ways too. I felt very moved particularly by the early essays in this book: Robin Wall Kimmerer's writing is poetic and clear; she wonderfully weaves her scientific understandings and her indigenous ways of knowing into a narrative about human morality and spirituality; and her writing aligns with my values and illustrates how to deepen those values, embody them, and verbalize them. I learned a lot about indigenous world views, that I think helped me understand other literature by Native authors more deeply. My outlook on life has certainly been influenced by reading this book and there are particular essays that I feel like I will come back to again and again.
My one criticism is that the essays do become a bit repetitive by the end. On one hand, this really emphasized the important lessons the author was trying to teach and I appreciate the multitude of examples and contexts she used to illustrate the same idea, but it was also wearisome. I think this book is best read slowly - binge reading this book exacerbates the repetitiveness.

As a fellow Potawatomi, I cherish Kimmerer’s book for teaching me more about my culture, history, and ancestors. This book is sacred for me.
