Two Dead Wives picks up where Adele Parks' earlier novel, Woman Last Seen, leaves off, although you definitely don't have to read the first book in order to enjoy the second. In Two Dead Wives, Kylie Gillingham's murder reveals a shocking secret--she's been leading a double life and is a bigamist. Her second husband is the prime suspect, but he tries to get off the hook by persuading Kylie's sons to investigate her best friend, who moved in with the family to "help out" after Kylie's death.

The boys' investigation leads them to a small seaside town, where they run into danger and discover a shocking secret.

This book did a great job of keeping my interest and of telling the story from the viewpoints of a variety of different characters. It seems that everyone has something to hide, and there's plenty of suspense, especially when the boys unknowingly connect with a potential murderer online. A climactic scene in the seaside village had me on the edge of my seat.

Looking forward to reading more Adele Parks!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

This was an absolute page turner of a thriller. I could not put it down! I was unaware that is was the sequel to a previously written title when starting my read, but I don’t think that affected the plot whatsoever. It worked fantastic as a standalone. This novel unravels the story around the disappearance and potential murder of a woman found to have been simultaneously married to two different men. The twists and turns kept me at the edge of my seat page after page. Fantastic read!

This one really had my guessing through the first half.  A woman home again for medical treatment and a dead bigamist wife.  How could these two tales possibly be related.  I did figure about a good bit of the ending, but still enjoyed the journey.  It’s been long enough that the COVID setting didn’t touch on any nerves.  While this is listed as book 2 in the DCI Clements series, I read the first book and didn’t make the connection until I read the author’s note at the end.  So this can easily be read as a stand alone book.

While I am not sure I liked any of the characters (nor did I dislike them), I was immediately drawn into the story.  Seeing both husbands and the boys reeling from the revelation their wife was a bigamist and also murdered.  I was pleased I did get some insight into why the wife would choose a second husband.

I like how the two stories came together and that the author took such care at the start.  No loose strings were left dangling and while I had to suspend reality a little in this one, I enjoyed the read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book. When I picked this book up I didn't realize it was a sequel. Once I realized this was a sequel I looked at reviews and many said you didn't have to read the first book to read this. However, when I started reading this book I was confused because it started as if in the middle of a mystery book. I also found the writing to not flow very well. The transitions didn't seem to flow; one instance the DC is interviewing a husband and the next sentence she's in a car. Maybe if I read the first book it would be better since I'd be in the know but as an initial read it didn't hit for me.
