This book was so sweet, definitely hit home for me as a fellow white native (and viola player? Hello?)

Unfortunately the very last chapter was the only interesting part of this book and should have been the beginning or middle of the story. The pace was very slow and stretched a relatively unremarkable day into almost 300 pages with disjointed flash backs. The author tried to not overwhelm younger readers with the harder parts of native life and/or the characters living situation -- but this resulted in a very sanitized story.
The whole romance plot should have been cut. It added nothing.
This is a good way to introduce kids to how backward blood quantum is, but I think that gets lost in this meandering story. Good writing and interesting concept though!

Such a sweet book with themes of identity exploration and a bit of tween romance. It was definitely a comforting read.
