Slow and the flashes in time were confusing at first. Skimmed a lot and wish there was less exposition and more plot

An excellent read. Finally a spy novel with a different POV, a woman whose upbringing and inner monologue shows the reader the "double-consciousness" of an African American operating in a high-performing role. Left the book wanting a sequel.

I can't, I just can't with this book. It is not my cup of tea, but I made it through to say it's well written. It is has pieces that I love and it makes me understand why it's a favorite. Now let's get into why "I can't". I don't like first person novels written directly to a person. I also just am not a fan of spy books which is a big part of this. It's just not thrilling for me. The book starts off with action and interesting settings/story set up, but I just couldn't get into it. So yea, it's a no for me.

Well there goes several hours of my life I’ll never get back. Too many side plots, too much CIA/FBI/KGB/LMNOP. Clearly it’s a set up for a series, of which I’m sure there’s an audience (folks that like all that cloak and dagger, espionage stuff)...but this ain't for the kid. Admittedly it’s not my preferred genre, but I’ve read a few who do it well. This one doesn’t do it. I wanted to like it, I’m always rooting for the sistas, so I bought it to support. But can I say I’m now feverishly looking for my receipt?

Relatively anti-climactic, and took a while to get there.

Meh. I really hoped for more from this book but didn’t care about the characters much and the action was minimal and unconvincing. Oh well.
