Difficult to get through at times, for different reasons. The subject matter is very dark but the story is told in a very engaging way and I was keen to keep going. The second half becomes a bit technical and I struggled to get through it at times, but it is well worth the time spent.

The audiobook experience was decent. I think everyone should give this book a go, at the very least.

The first half of this book is harrowing to read. This is the kind of book that has a lasting impact on your life, your way of thinking, how you look at the world. It shows how horrible life can be, but also highlights how wonderful and worthwhile it is. It is a must read for anyone struggling with finding meaning in life or questioning the point of life. The second half of the book is beautiful. Victor Fromm has touched so many lives.

This book definitely seems less pedantic and condescending than many which try to tackle the issues of depression and hopelessness in people with logic and grace. Through detailing memorable instances of events throughout his trials in the concentration camps of the Third Reich, he gives reasoning behind people’s need for purpose and motivation, and does so in a way that can relate to victims of such horrific atrocities just as easily as to young children suffering some of the first minor complications they’ve ever had.
