Listened to this book, read by the author -- I must have seen it recommended somewhere. Though I might have appreciated it more ten years ago (when I was closer to the experiences related in this book, but far enough to be able to laugh), I still really enjoyed Klein's unique takes on motherhood and some of her really dazzling language. Example: Writing about getting accustomed to her son spending six hours a day in pre-school, Klein says, "...even if he shares a lot of details, we can only ever get a tiny sense of what happened, a puddle's worth of reflected sky." Such a powerful metaphor that continues to speak to this empty nester! There were times when I was listening that I wanted to shake Klein out of her endless neuroses and self-deprecation, but those are also where so much of the humor comes from -- instead, I'll just remove one star!
