This book was a little bit of a slog for me. Twice I said I just want to push through this to get to a new book. It had so much potential. Also am I the only one who wanted her to end up with Koy?

Le Marigold va me manquer
⚓️ C’était si chouette. Et tout aussi génial que le premier tome, dans la mesure où ces deux opus sont très complémentaires. Ça se ressent notamment dans certains détails placés comme les cailloux du petit poucet dans le tome 1 qui prennent sens ici, et c’est ce côté palpitant qui m’a fait autant accrocher.
⚓️ Je me suis bien volontiers prise au jeu des intrigues politiques, des jeux de confiance, puis d’une chasse au trésor qui nous aurait presque fait basculer dans la piraterie. Vraiment, l’ambiance était folle et j’avais la sensation de devoir rester sur mes gardes moi aussi pour survivre. Je trouve que l’autrice a particulièrement su recréer l’atmosphère salée du quotidien des marchands marins, avec tous les dangers qu’une telle vie appelle.
⚓️ Et encore une fois, Fable a été une protagoniste géniale à suivre. Je la trouve très bien écrite dans la mesure où contrairement à beaucoup d’autres en YA, ce n’est pas une héroïne qui verse dans la naïveté. Et ça s’applique à tous les autres personnages en réalité : ils sont tous plus au moins gris sans s’adoucir. Ils sont fidèles à eux-mêmes, avec leurs imperfections, et ne deviennent pas tout à coup hyper cheesy, ce qui aurait gâché le principe même du bouquin.
⚓️ Mes seules petites frustrations viennent du fait que j’aurais adoré « encore plus ». La meuf jamais satisfaite, ouais ouais. Encore plus de found family, parmi l’équipage du Marigold, parce que purée ils sont beaux. Et encore plus de pages pour aller jusqu’au bout des choses parce que certes il se dévore, mais il mériterait bien quelques pages supplémentaires. Mais ces deux points ne sont pas vraiment négatifs dans la mesure où je ressors tout de même de la duologie comblée.

A great conclusion to this duology! There was a lot going on right from the start, as there usually is when it comes to sequels, so it pulled me in faster than the first book, which I loved! All the relationships were well-developed and there were a couple of twists that were interesting as well. Nothing was going well for anyone for most of the book, which made it nice and stressful, but I loved it either way. I can definitely see myself revisiting this series at some point, and it's a fun, easy story for anyone looking to get into pirate books!

I mean, it’s good. It always hits different when the MC is “given” power/wealth/respect (esp via her birth) instead of stealing it or earning it for herself like she did in Fable. I like anything with dredging and gemstones. Intrigued but not quite enough going on. The Holland thing could have played out with more depth.
West/Fable feels different in a bad way- he went from distant secretive sexy helmsman to like distant overprotective husband way to fast. Whiplash from how she went from poor stowaway to crew mate bestie to the bosses wife who calls the shots in a matter of days. That was weird. Then Namesake suddenly became The Quest. I knew it would end good but I did not care at all about getting there. But it ended good.

I should have probably DNF'd this. I was okay with the first book, but I just didn't really connect with the characters so I didn't love it. The idea was interesting tho, and one element was appealing to me so I figured I'd continue the series and hoped that I'd care more about the characters in the second book. But sadly I just didnt. Most of this book I could care less about what was going on. I dont think it was bad and if you liked the characters and the dynamics I could see people being really into it, but I just really wasnt...
