Fable is back with treacherous pirates, political masterminds...and some new powerful connections.

This book picks up from when we last saw Fable, she was in a bit of a bind and separated from her Marigold crew. In this second book (I think it's a duology), we see more substance from the side characters. I loved seeing Willa open up...and surprisingly even Koy. It was an exciting feeling watching Fable fill in the gaps of her family history.

What I loved most about this duology was the world building - the terrain of Jeval, the markets in Dern, the vibrant feel of Ceros - I am a sucker for the Pirates of Caribbean films, mainly for the setting and costumes. This duology gave me that same feeling.

The romance in this book was not just about the attraction between Wes and Fable, but the relationships around her - Saint, Willa, Koy, Clove, Hamish, Paj, Auster, and even her late mother Isolde. This series was about Fable coming to terms with her place in the world - what she could be, who she is.

I might be reading too much into it LOL. What do you think?

Overall, a spectacular young adult action-romance. My only stipulation is that I wish it had more action - swordfights, gunfights, bullfights - whichever!

I really liked the first book in this series, Fable. This sequel, however, fell flat for me. It was way too long and a lot of it was unnecessary. I did really enjoy the dredging scenes, but the power plays amongst people were just not intriguing and fairly boring. I found myself losing interest quite a bit.

I really enjoyed this book! I definitely think I liked it more than the first only because it has more of a substantial plot. I also loved the novella at the end, but the loose ends at the end made me realize there’s a third book I need to read 😂
My only qualm about this book is that West really got on my nerves sometimes, he bulldozed over everybody and kind of just did whatever he wanted. It was well-intentioned and for the sake of other people but he didn’t listen to what the people around him were saying and he just did what he thought was best without taking their thoughts into account, which was irritating.

I enjoyed this one even more than the first! Took a few twists, some that were expected, some that surprised me. Really enjoyed the weird overall and would recommend. Not sure if I would read it again or if I will buy my own copy so 4 stars.
