I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I just have that overwhelming feeling of being in love with this book, and it's hard to find words to convey why I love it so much. I think it's the blend of my love for the characters, the setting, the little hint of magic, the atypical family, and the sailing that has me. I absolutely love being on boats and swimming, so combining that with some of my favorite writing devices is the surest way to my heart.

This book picks off right where Fable ended, throwing us right back into the action. The author maintained the witty dialogue, Fable's strong character, the romance, and the family drama that I had come to expect from the first book. I loved the fast-paced plot and the more vulnerable aspects throughout the book. Overall this was a really satisfying conclusion to this duology and I'm sad that there won't be any more!

Moins palpitant que le premier, mais toujours emplis de mystère et d'amour filial.

Hmmm. I was unfortunately disappointed in this book. I had absolutely loved “Fable”, but this book was hard to get into, and it honestly made me like West a lot less for his weird and angry attitude the whole time. It was a long con book, which I’m not usually into anyways, so that probably didn’t help. “Namesake” started slow (despite the cliffhanger ending of “Fable”), and I had a hard time finding a rhythm with it. I mean, I obviously read it in one day, so it wasn’t a hard read, but I never felt invested, and the characters I loved in “Fable” were kind of meh here. Sad that I didn’t love it, but I’ll keep it on my shelf for the absolutely beautiful book cover.

I loved this little duology and the writing style in both this book and Fable. Adrienne Young writes so you can always feel her characters emotions so heavily. The planning and the way the novel ties together was quite well done. I loved that we got so more insight into Isolde and her story as well as their family history (I just wanted more).

My only issue with both books, and why I gave only 4 stars for both is because I feel like the writer could have done so much more with this story. I wanted more about the characters (Isode, West, Clove, Saint), more about the build-up to the romance (the relationship between West and Fable was a bit immature), more about the build-up to the ending, and more of the camaraderie of the Merigold throughout both books.
I did like how the end addressed the relationship between Fable and Saint. I loved the feelings of connection Fable had with Isode and what happened at the conclusion with this. You really felt her presence along with Fable at times.
I would definitely recommend this quick duology to anyone wanting a fun and magical feeling YA read.
