This book had the authority of a legitimate guidebook, the aesthetic beauty of its photography and eye-catching page design, and the ferocious gentleness of vulnerability and radical imagination. To call it a mere "delight to read" would undermine Summer Michaud-Skog and the Fat Girls Hiking ambassadors' expertise in both outdoor recreating and storytelling. Lulled into a technical stupor by practical advice on how to pack for and navigate a trail, I'd turn the page into Summer's or an ambassador's journey in their fat bodies. Every page was a reclamation of fatness and the writers' right to exist in nature just as they are. It was also an eye-opening read for me as a straight-sized person who does not have to navigate a size barrier in order to recreate.

Fat Girls Hiking serves as a guidebook and a manifesto – and not to mention, as a fine addition to one's coffee table.
