This was so soft but so hot omg I'd die for both of them. Rarely do I equally like a hero and heroine the same amount but these two were so well matched and we're soulmates. I just loved this omg

I was excited to read this book but it did not hit the mark for me. The premise really captured my interest and I loved the duke showing up in the beginning of the book so dramatically. After that, this book REALLY stalled. There was a constant back and forth between the two main characters that didn’t go anywhere. They would get close to being romantic in any sense of the word and then at the last second the duke would declare he couldn’t be loved for the tenth time and I just couldn’t buy into it or feel sorry for him. The sex took way too long to get to. It would have been so much more interesting if more of the book had been spent with the two of them figuring out what sex would look like given his disability. Instead it felt so rushed and I didn’t really care about it. Would maybe give this author another shot but was not a fan of this one.

Well done.

The wounded hero is wounded throughout, no falseness or convenient forgetfulness. The characters are well rounded and believable. I did struggle with him climbing a tree, and Iraq wasn’t a state until 1932, well past this time period. Those hiccups aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

A lushly written retelling that is hindered by uneven pacing.
