I nearly gave up the style of writing was so bad but people on here has said stick with it. I'm not sure why, the characters were self indulgent and annoying especially Ivan in the way he refused to speak with his brother. That being said some of the female characters were well written so it could have been worse. I do not feel enriched by reading this and feel robbed of time I could have spent reading better books.

I finished this book well over ten days ago and I am just now getting myself to write a review, mainly because I did not want to part with it. Rooney does an incredible job writing complex characters, who are actively making choices that do not reflect their values/morals, both aware of this but not necessarily changing. It is very human and very real, capturing what it feels like to wade through the haze of grief and time after loss. Ironically, I lost my own father a few months ago and this is the book I did not know I needed. Its characters have become resident in my mind and thought process surrounding grief, and the actions (or inactions) that follow in its wake. The writing was superb, I especially enjoyed the stream-of-consciousness elements and her capacity to change writing style dependent on which character perspective was featured.

Two starkly different brothers navigate life, love and grief after their father’s passing. Not my favorite Sally Rooney (hiiii Normal People) but still had such unique characters with complex dynamics between them all. Rooney is such a fantastic author regardless of if each novel is a hit with myself or not, her skill is phenomenal. Great audible narration, obviously the Irish cast needs a lovely Irish narrator. Also Alexei is best boi

This was a beautifully intimate book. A reflection on grief, love in it's many forms, and complicated family relationships.

If Ms. Rooney cut out 100 pages, I would’ve rated it higher. Also, very very slow in the beginning.

Guys we have to stop making fun of boys for performatively reading popular books in public, they might read this and accidentally learn empathy.

slow burn for me - took a second to get into but ended up being one of my fav sally rooney books ever. how did she get me to care about these emotionally stunted men?

great if you love a classic slow paced character driven sally rooney (i do) but probably quite unbearable if you don’t.
