a stunning, explorative, and cunning memoir that puts into question hollywood's sexualization of women, the body politics, and societal expectations (that are fucked up).

I really loved this book. It is so well written and the essays are thoughtful, complex, and nuanced and detail with care Emily’s own experience of her body and the modelling industry. The K-Spa essay I found particularly interesting and compelling as it gave a completely different perspective to nakedness. A brilliant read, I’d recommend this book 100%

This book is so vulnerable. Emily's voice is powerful and intelligent - and not just in the audiobook!

Rounding up from 3.5 - thanks to Sarah Koppelkam for including this quote in her review because well over a year after she also listened to Ratajkowski read this memoir to her on audiobook, as I did yesterday, I found it helpful in deciphering my thoughts after its finish: Sophie Gilbert in her review in the Atlantic writes, "Ratajkowski doesn’t say much in the book about how women and girls might respond to images of her. That myopia is frustrating, because she’s so astute on the subject of how her body is interpreted by men."

there were a few essays i liked the most - they have hit me hard and will stay with me for longer. it was difficult to read about all the terrible things that had happened to Emily and then be able to google them to make sure they had actually happened, that it is not just fiction. every time i read about the modelling industry i can't hold my disguise for it - for the sexualization, for the violence, for all the caused harm.
glad to be able to read the Emily's story from her own perspective

EmRata has this amazing ability to be succinct in her writing without cutting out emotion. Her words go straight to the heart and this collection of essays is a stellar debut.
EmRata speaks to her audience without any pretense - she makes you feel like you are sat together in her living room as she shares her most vulnerable experiences.

The world EmRata occupies is both foreign and yet so close to home. Like most women, she has been taught to use her looks to get ahead in life. But unlike most women, EmRata has had a peek behind the curtain. In My Body she tears the curtain away to show that the perks of money and fame still do not protect women from the violent, vulture-like men of the world.

My fave essays: Toxic, Buying my Body Back, My Son, Sun
