Another solid addition to the Demonata Series from Darren Shan.

I really enjoyed the historical fantasy vibe and thought the characters were enjoyable if a little one dimensional (though they definitely do the job for the age group this is written for).

My only complaint is that at places it falls slightly into the trope many historical fantasy books fall into: "this is a world where there are magic and demons but for some reason women are still not respected".
I don't think this was intentional, and sometimes it felt like this trope was maybe due to the main character growing up around men and just repeating what she had been told. If that's the case, Id be okay with that, but it's hard to tell in so short a book. The only thing I can say with certainty about this is that it wasn't enough to ruin my enjoyment of the book, it just made me roll my eyes when it came up.

Overall though i had a great time reading it and I'm looking forward to continuing with the series.

Prostředí hradišť, druidi a to všechno. Díky tomu, že to nebylo psané v minulém čase, ale přítomném se knížka krásně četla a dokanle mě vtáhla do děje. Popravdě se těším na další díl už jen kvůli tomu, abych zjistila co se stalo s Bec.

This didn't start as strongly for me as all the other Demonata books have. I would say it took me to about 50% before I even really enjoyed it. It wasn't bad, but it was by no means on the level of the first two books.

Then things got real messed up the way they tend to with this series. People started dropping dead. Demons were eating folk. Good times were had. And that ending... I thought I knew were it was going. I was mistaken.

But yeah, not on par with the better books of the series but about the same as #3. I'm hoping #5 starts bringing it back around.

I really liked this book. The pacing was much more similar to books 1 and 2 rather than 3. This particular book gives more of Lord Loss' background, rather than those fighting him, although you do briefly get to meet the Grady ancestors.

The ONLY reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because I liked the other books a lot more- I'm still finishing the series and I am still absolutely obsessed with Darren Shan. In high school I read every single book, now as an adult I'm re reading them all and loving them even more!

This book is definitely worth reading. Not as scary as the first ones but I love the characters. Bec and 'Run Fast' are absolutely to die for
