The dementia plotline hit home for me, so this felt real and painful at times. But utterly beautiful. I am in awe of how Abby Jimenez can draw upon grief and true emotional depth and build it into a stunning work of art using imperfect people to create a perfect love story.
Xavier and Samantha are some of my favorite romantic leads. The love they have for each other was SO strong and so touching. Add in the way they each supported each other in their own spheres. I want to cry thinking about it again.
AND HANK??? Imma need a minute to recover from loving Hank so much in this story.
This book isn’t out yet, but I want to buy every copy ever because of how perfect it is. Read it. Love it. Remember it.

One thing I've consistently enjoyed about Abby's books is the realistic and complicated life scenarios she writes for her characters. A long distance relationship is hard. Long term family member care is hard. Determining what to do next in your life when you have desires that conflict with your financial obligations. All topics are well handled in this book!
I'll say though, there is an infidelity plotline that I think didn't add to the story at all. I kept waiting for it to be addressed or mentioned in a more meaningful way, but it wasn't. I also found myself somewhat jolted at times by some abrupt parts of the book (Samantha moving to CA instead of just "traveling", Xavier reconnecting with Hank after all those years, as examples). All that said, I'll read the final copy once it's published!

Whelp, I said I was going to pace myself, to really savor reading my first ARC ever and what did I go and do but read it all in one day. 🥹
Abby is an auto read author for me and dare I say that this book is now my favorite of hers? Barely into Chapter 1 and you are already rooting for Xavier, grumpy, yes, but willing to break the law for a four-legged friend, and Samantha, full of sunshine, tenacity and a willing participant in the cat distribution system. The back and forth, the banter, the immediate chemistry, the first date UGGHH PERFECTION. 🛸
Keeping the spoiler free and commenting instead on the overall: what I love about Abby is how you can tell she first develops the character’s personalities and allows that to inform her story lines which makes for a more authentic story and reading experience. I believed the characters would actually act the way Abby writes them to behave which makes it even harder to reconcile that these people cannot be my best friends. They are just so darn funny, lovely and likable. I kicked my feet like a school girl, I cried, grinned from ear to ear and audibly “awwww”-ed.
“Because life wouldn’t be worth living if I didn’t remember you.” 😩🩵
Thank you to Abby, NetGalley and Forever for the chance to win this ARC! Still screaming. Still pinching myself.
