This was my first Samantha Shannon book and I am immediately obsessed. This book is a historical fantasy lover’s dream. Shannon’s world building is so rich and impeccable, and the characters are just incredible. One of the things I loved most about this book was that one of the main characters is a middle aged woman, a POV we hardly ever see in media. Several main characters are queer, women are the main characters and drivers of their own stories, and one of the main themes of the book is motherhood. As a queer person, it was so refreshing to see myself reflected on the page in a world where homophobia just doesn’t exist. There are wyrms and a deadly plague, but at least there aren’t any homophobes.

TLDR: If you love historical fantasy and hate homophobia, you will love this book 😋

boszorkányok, hercegnők, sárkányok és 0 db hetero szereplő, mi kellhetne ennél több
(plusz ráadásul a világ legszebb borítója)

Sadly just didn't catch my attention and it felt like a chore to read. Maybe I'll come back to it at some point!

I read Priory before reading A Day of Fallen Night, and I loved picking up on details that connected characters and events of the two books. Even though you can read them in either order, I think reading Priory first gives you a good understanding of all the different cultures and religions in this world. ADOFN is beautiful, and each of the four main characters are complex women with incredible stories.
