I was just reading a blog about five common romance novel tropes, the first one being the fake or forced relationship which ends up becoming the real deal. I quite like this trope.

Tina is a creative genius, a gifted musician and a bitter, bitter woman. With her father gone, she was left to nurse her dying mother while still in her teens. Her simmering resentment towards her dad's family and her desire to never give up her freedom has led Tina to a lifetime of one night stands and no commitments. When her cousin Peter asks her to design an advertising promotion for his family business in Spokane, Tina's Seattle friends insist she meet up with their friend Jan.
Jan is a geometry teacher with family obligations of her own. She longs for a settled life after a chilhood of moving from city to city with her military dad.

Walsh pads this story of reluctant love with quality secondary couples, in depth looks at the lives of both of her mains and a sweet slow building romance. It was easy to get caught up in the banter between Jan and Tina and root for their HEA.

I know I can count on a pleasant escapist read when I tuck into a novel by Karis Walsh.

I listened to this one on audiobook. Rarely do I use an audible credit for a book I have not read. I actually purchased this book in paperback form a while ago during a BSB sale. I hadn't read it and decided to go ahead and get the audiobook. I was not disappointed. It was great to listen to, and I am sure it would be great to read. I enjoy Walsh as an author and know I will continue to read her books. I haven't read everything she has written but it is on my to read list. If you are new to Walsh's writing or a fan this is one you will not want to overlook. The setting was awesome as expected from Walsh. The characters were likeable and the story was great. You really can't go wrong with one of her books.

This was my first encounter with Karis Walsh and I enjoyed the novel well enough. The author is competent, the trope is well used but she gave it her own spin. In short there is nothing wrong with it, but nevertheless it won't make it to my favorite shelf.

Graphic artist and musician Tina Nelson reluctantly travels to Spokane to do some work for her cousin. There she meets geometry teacher Jan Carroll, the woman her friends try to set her up with. Tina is a commitment phobe who likes to play the field and Jan is looking for some stability in her life and a partner who will stick around. Eventhough the ladies are in insta-lust, they are not prepared to try and see where this attraction will lead them. Add some deep rooted bad family mojo where Tina is concerned and the care and worry for a father recently diagnosed with Alzheimers on Jan's side and you have the theme of this story.

I thought both ladies were circling around the hot porridge for way too long and I was like "Oh, get into bed already! For fucks sake!" (Book Club Buddy D. agreed with me on this). When they finally did however, we were rewarded with some very hot sexytimes. Overall I just had this slightly frustrated feel with both ladies throughout the whole read which made me drop it to 3.8 stars. The music parts felt very authentic and were a nice addition though.

f/f explicit
Themes: playah, commitment fobe, who needs family, Alzheimers, airplanes, fiddle-dee-dee, oh these girls really know how to frustrate eachother, now I want to know what rosin smells like, plenty of wet panties but no action, just fuck already!
