I though about quitting this book multiple times. It was described as a historical romantic thriller. It was not romantic and mostly too long and clunky. The historical time period was unique, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1. Just a totally skippable book that I waited 8 years to read.

I loved the story once it got going, but it was slow to start. Parts of it were confusing. I didn't like the author's writing style of ping ponging back and forth between the character's past and present frequently. I did, however, love the story and the characters. The world and story were very vivid and easy to picture in the minds eye. I kept wanting to know what would happen next. Overall, good story!
